A Modern Psalm

The monotony of my life is crushing

There is no reprieve from my chores

And my responsibilities never cease.

My workplace is full of dismissal

Coworkers who disregard my value and my expertise.

These people take advantage of me

Use my kindness for their own purposes

And gossip behind my back.

I am spread thin by expectations

And the unrealistic demands put on me.

But you, God, see all my goodness.

You value my life and call me worthy

You respect my personhood and my opinions.

You love me to my core.

Those who seek to do me harm

Light their fires around me

But you are a wind from Heaven that

Extinguishes the flames.

My heart will sing with your goodness

Because you rescue me.
