Healing Magic

I once knew a guy

Who practiced the healing magic

Of turning off his phone

And ignoring his life until he felt whole.

It was a frightening habit

Because when he disappeared I imagined

The worst possible reasons

Rather than taking our time apart

To do my own healing and renewal.

The power of melting away

Is the kind of magic I desperately crave

A safe place to unravel

Without anyone asking me why.

I don’t know why I’m falling to pieces

And I think understand now

Why he turned off his phone sometimes

And practiced the healing magic of

Ignoring his life until he felt whole.
