What does it say about the church

When the nones, the nons and the ex-religious

Have better liturgy for lament

Than the men and women who stand in pulpits

Donning robes and stolls to signify servanthood

To a religion that claims to bind the broken

But too often breaks the broken

In favor of the institution?

What does it say about the church

When those who left the sanctuary proper

Set up sacred shrines for anger and grief

More authentic and natural

Than the places where we search for holiness

Where friends would fall to their knees

Asking for miracles but refuse to do the work?

What does it say about the church

When the ones who were kicked out sit with you

Believe the best about you

Believe you are hurt

Believe you are good

Believe you

While the ones who are supposed to seek peace and justice

Instead choose to relegate you to the back row

And expect that you will be happy there

Watching other people who haven’t felt the wrath of

Religious Rightness

Do the things you used to do with joy?
