What do you do with your anger

After it has desiccated you

Leaving your mouth dry with the dust

Of tears you never cried

Because they evaporated from the heat

Of the rage that inflamed you

Before they could trail down your hot cheeks?

What do you do with anger like that

That threatens to burn away

Any compassion you might have had

For the people who wounded you

Because of pride and arrogance

Leaving dark stains on both of you

That will never wash out?

What do you do with anger

When your anger is denied as irrelevant

While the anger of others is supported and justified

Because your honesty was too much

Too soon and too close

To be appreciated as an expression of kindness?

What do you do with this kind of anger?

How do you let it burn out without it consuming you?
