Hymns for Lent Number 3

During Lent, I’ll be writing six hymns that capture the spirit of reflection for the season. I will publish them on Sunday mornings. All the hymns will be set to well known tunes, so they will be easily shareable and singable upon reading.

Hymn 3 is titled Be Balm and Sweet Relief and uses the same tune as Jesus Paid It All.

Now I contemplate my faults

My nature, which is small

My sins and griefs and shame

How I’ve wounded, every, all.

Come to me God, come

Be my fast reprieve

Come and wipe away my guilt

Be balm and sweet relief.

I am less and I am weak

I’m sick and need release

Take me now, God, take me now

Take me where I’ll be at peace.

Come to me God, come

Be my fast reprieve

Come and wipe away my guilt

Be balm and sweet relief.

Now I contemplate my death

I contemplate my life

Now I beat my weapons dull

Put away each blade and knife.

Come to me, God come

Be my fast reprieve

Come and wipe away my guilt

Be balm and sweet relief.
