A Sonnet for Minding Your Own Business

Belief grows unencumbered by the truth,

A strange phenomenon—that I can say—

Since what we choose to see will oft produce

Reality which may cause disarray,

A chaos of an otherwise clear fact:

Sometimes a friendship falters in its flight

And crashing, spreads destruction forth and back

Upon the ones who disagree and fight.

There in the burning pyre of once-loved friends

A line of helpers come to gawk or jeer

Their intervention swiftly bringing end

To honesty and forward paths made clear.

For when you make an argument your own

You nurture chaos ‘til it’s overgrown.
